    Removing 77-92 headrests?

I am removing the skins from a set of seats right now that I need to ship tomorrow. I can't get the headrests out. I seem to remember using a thin piece of metal to hold the catch, but that isn't working. It has been a long time. Any advice?

    ----------

Sticking with it pays off! The tang in on the front side, on the part with the groove. I gave up trying from the front, so I just pulled the skin up, and held the tang with a screwdriver. Back to removing another 400 hog rings...

I was just about to say to pull the skins up and get it from inside. Some use a slim jim.

Yep, I tried my slim jim from the top. Couldn't push hard enough to spring it. Too flexible.

BTW, removing the skins from D'Elegance seats SUCKS. Many hours. My hands are killing me. I never want to see a hog ring again.

    Re: Removing 77-92 headrests?

when i placed on seat covers that were made for my 80 coupe and when it came to the headrests I also had difficult time removing them. I just took my car to an upholstery shop and asked if they would be so kind to remove the headrests for me and they did. No charge or any fees. But they used a hack saw blade, dont have the headrest up to high; pull up all the way then tap it down a little and slide in the hack saw and depress a tab, then pull up and it will lock again, tap it down a tad and slide in hack saw blade and repeat and pull up and out and presto..
