No start on 84 CDV...wondering if anybody had any ideas

Ive recently been working on my grandfather's 84 coupe. It started giving me problems, so I started replacing parts. Started out no fuel pressure, so I replaced the pump and now it holds 9 psi pressure. I've also replaced the cap, rotor, coil, fuel filter, vacuum lines and other odds and ends that were all marked "Delco Remy" so i figure they're probably all original parts.

Anyway, I know I got steady fuel pressure up to the schrader test valve. The car will spin over when i turn the key, but won't actually crank up so I can drive it. It acts almost like I got a bad connection somewhere. Where would any of you with experience with these cars recommend I start? I suspect its something minor. Should I just get out the voltmeter or what? I sure appreciate any help.

Check if you're getting spark. You can do this by pulling one of the sparkplug wires and holding it near some metal while someone cranks. You should see it arching. I think it has to be the #1 plug but not sure.

If no sparks jump then you know it's in your distributor or the plug wires.

The fastest way I have of check for spark is to use a timing light. You put the detector around each wire one at a time to see if it lights up and that all are sparking (and you can also check the timing at the same time too). It won't tell you if the spark is strong or not.

Any fuel spray from the throttle body injectors when cranking?

Ok i did some checking and the new ignition coil I bought apparently has a coat of black paint on the surface of the metal plates...all over the surface. Does this pose a grounding problem? I was just wondering if I should scrape the paint off the plates because that surface comes into contact with a ground wire and a small strap

If you have fuel pressure and spark it should start. I would verify the timing gear isn't stripped. Start with the basics, run a compression test. As mentioned above, get a timing light and see where the timing marks are as you crank it over.
