Just picked up a new 84 Deville De'elegance. Blue on blue with the soft cloth seats. The outside looks good as does the inside. It has 142K with a bad tranny and a motor that wont idle down. I only had it running for 10 minutes but the temp light came on. I looked under the hood and saw some melted wiring and some small mods but it all looks intacked.

Completely stock interior looks to have survived very well with the only defect being the locks not working.

Then comes the bad parts. The rust on the drivers floor board, its the only part of the floor board with rust

There is a rust hole in this fender thats hard to see. You can see the tire, just not in the pic.

Never did a floor pan though, are they a pain to deal with? I havent had it on the lift yet but the rest of the frame looks good. The plan would be to switch over the complete drivetrain from the 90 to this 84, everything except the interior mods, I like the interior as is. I would need to put some gauges somewhere though, any ideas?

Top of the pic, see the two 10mm silver nuts? Take those out, then the two more at the bottom (you can see them in the pic) and the complete frame comes off the seat. Then, do the same for a set of RWD seats, put those frames on your new seats. The seats will be controlled like stock and bolt in/wire in.

So I just can back in from trying to swap the seat frames and they dont work. The Seville seat frames are two pieces and way different but I'd also loose setbelts if I took the frame off. Would have been real nice to be able to just swap over the frame.

How far away are the seville seat frame "frame to floor" holes and the stock coupe deville mounting studs in the floor?

They're about 6 inches back from the original seat studs. Also, the seville seats only have one hole that mounts to the floor, the rest either bolt to the side or they hook into a split in the floor pan. Also, the Seville seat frames are too wide to fit into the area that the seats sit in, it hits the tranny hump and the side of the floor pan but its not bad, I can still mount them with some imagination.

personally and no offense , I hate it. Looks like a big ol' waffle maker, lol. The best looking grille, IMO, is the 1980 grille. I'm not saying it because I own a 1980 Caddy, its just that it resembles a Rolls Royce grille with its vertical bars going down..
What sucks right now is that I had to replace my grille with that of an 82, stock grille broke in half. :(

but like outsider said, you can interchange grilles to your liking..
and if you notice the 90-92 grille resembles the 1980 grille

I actually prefer the other style grille. I have my checker one from my 87 hanging up in the garage but I replaced it with the other style long ago. That's what's great about the little changes from year to year is you can pick and choose and make the car exactly how you like it :)

Havent been doing much, just working on the seats and center console. The center console is still in cardboard stages but pretty basic. I want it to fit in with the dashboard. Slanting down from the ashtray, running low till you get to the armrest which is pretty far back. Gonna wrap it in black vinyl but I want to use some woodgrain off a couple glove box doors on the face of it somehow. Soooo, anybody got a couple glove box doors from the 84 era they dont need?

Welded a flat piece across the front and back.

Then welded some 2x3" spacers onto the back flat bar to level it and drilled through the floor. Gonna put some anchors under the car so the bolts dont rip out.

Got the seats mounted and the center console mocked up. Console is 6.5" wide.

Here's the rough cut of the center console, 48" long.

This is what I had to do to the seats. Weld a bar across and then some spacers to reach the floor pan.

My friend gave me some pointers on welding and I've got a lot better.

I just hope this setup looks good cause I'll take it out if it doesn't.
