Thanks for all the responses! I will definitely look into those sites.

I took some new pictures of my girl today and will post tomorrow or Monday, mirrors aren't as bad as I thought but the exterior door handles are as pitted as I remembered! The car is actually looking great in the day light (1st wash in 5 years was a night) missed a couple spots but when I post the pics you will see not too bad.

Today replaced all 4 tires, replaced drivers side brake hose and broken brake line. Had the car on the lift and noticed the transmission pan is leaking so will replace gasket and trans filter, and fluid. Going to re-do entire brake line and bought all needed brake line and fittings to make it happen.

Re: Restoring my 1983 Fleetwood Brougham

I can't believe that it has been over a year that my car sat at my friends house waiting to finish the rest of the brake lines, flushes and some other items on the list. This is a work in progress.

    Scratched off the list:

-Complete replacement of all brake lines & hoses
-fresh brake fluid flush and bled
    -Radiator flush and fill
    -new belts
    -new battery

Drove the car for the first time in 6 years last weekend. The gas although treated with Sta-Bil (in 2007) was no good, and I'm glad there wasn't more then a 1/4 tank at best. The car started with no problem with a new battery but wasn't running well, a lot of surging due to the nasty gas. I filled the tank with 93 octane and drove the car from his house to mine an hour away with no issues. The fresh gas definitely stopped the surging issue.

The car needs another bath, as the last time it had one was the last time I posted pictures here which was Christmas day 2011.

I have been looking on craigslist for replacement mirrors and exterior door handles as they are pitted, Also going to be looking for a rear passenger door on the right side as it has a dent from someone backing into it in Florida.

I will be detailing the engine bay and doing a full detail of the exterior in the next couple weeks, and will take new pictures and post them here.

    Thanks for reading.

    James

Yup and search for MR.LAC or MR.GM84 they sell a lot of used caddy parts along with N.O.S.
I sometimes come across nice items when I go to junkyard but lately there hasnt been any RWD caddies which is sad..

Re: Restoring my 1983 Fleetwood Brougham

A close friend named my car "Aretha" recently so I guess that's her name. I hope the old Ht4100 lasts a while but if not I will look into the transplant options. The engine was never abused and my grandmother gave me all the service records before she died. "Aretha" was over maintained if anything which is good someone must have told them to change the anti-freeze/coolant every year, and drain trans and change filter 3 times with so few miles. I forgot to mention that when I put new tires on a year ago, they replaced the ones it left the factory with, I was shocked to say the least. I look forward to bring her back to her original glory.

Re: Restoring my 1983 Fleetwood Brougham

Couple questions I hope to find answers for. First is the radio goes crazy when the car is turned on, digital screen runs wild and takes a while to settle down where you can see the time or radio channel. Second issue I'm curious about is the amber "service soon" light comes on when warmed up and I can hear a faint horn like sound.

As a note on the hour long drive home a month or so ago, which was the first real drive in years the horn sound didn't happen at all, but I have heard this sound many years ago while stopped at stop light And same symptom the "service" light came on. If I rev the engine the noise stops, once I take my foot of the gas it sounds again. Doesn't make noise ever when driving.

I hope someone has experienced either issue and can steer me in the right direction.

    Thanks,
    James

Sorry, no ideas about your problems.

    Are there any trouble codes?

btw, you have a beautiful Brougham! Would like to see some progress pics again.

    Good luck with it.

The noise could be a relay buzzing or something. You'll have to follow the noise, shouldn't be too hard to find while it buzzes. Is the noise inside the car or outside?

definitely not a buzzing, sounds like a horn (just not as loud as the Cadillac horn) and is definitely coming from the engine bay. I will have to try and locate it next time I start the car.

I think the radio is freaking out because the electric antennae doesn't operate properly.

try unplugging the horns. The radio display might be going out.
