It means your air conditioning has a leak and doesn't work.

In other words, its too low on freon and the ECU wont provide the ground signal to the compressor clutch. Designed in to protect the compressor.

I don't buy that theory..I have had many cars short cycle when low on freon... this never changed the setting on the dash... If you were right , to prove your theory all you would have to do is take the wire off the pressure switch on the compressor and ground it.. Now , if you are right , it will stay on AUTO and not shift off..I have had a ton of problems with these CC units... I think your problem is in the dash cc control..

To Verify go into diagnostics and confirm an A/C related code.

    Re: Climate Control Switch

When it is low it will still cycle and stay on auto. If it gets too low it wont and switches back to econo. All Cadillac models from that era do that. The only difference between auto and econo is auto runs AC when it's needed and econo doesn't.

    Re: Climate Control Switch

The difference between low freon and too low has to do with ambient temperature in the car. If set to 60 and its 85 in the car, it will most likey defer to econ. if set to 75 and its 73 in the car, it will stay in auto and cycle the compressor.
