low oil light is on but oil level is fine...

changed the plugs and wires on my 95 and now the "low oil level" light keeps coming on but the oil level is perfect. Any idea what could be up? is there an external plug for like an oil level indicator sensor or something that maybe I unplugged a bit while doing the plugs and wires?

    Thanks.

Low oil "level" light? Sure it isn't oil PRESSURE? If there is an oil LEVEL sensor, I would assume it would be on the side of the oil pan.

Have you tried to unplug battery for 5 minutes? Just to discard an electronic bug.

The low oil sensor is in the side of the pan on LT1s. Check to make sure it is plugged in, and the wires are ok.

Get under the car, you will see the sensor and wiring right away. It sticks out of the side of the oil pan sump.

Re: low oil light is on but oil level is fine...

Didn't get out there yesterday but got under it today and...the wires are completely ripped out of that little sensor!

I also may have found the cause of my rough idle while looking...

That corroded wire goes to an O2 sensor (looks like)

That is probably what is giving me a rough idle! so now I need to try to fix that and also find out where the wires for that oil sensor went so I can attempt to repair that, too! god what a headache. Any info/advise would be nice. Thanks

Re: low oil light is on but oil level is fine...

Wherever that wire went, it's grounded out somewhere. That's why the low oil light is coming on - that sensor just completes a ground. It looks like you may need to crimp the wires on new pins in that connector since there's nothing left to splice. That is if you care about the low oil level light. If you keep an eye on the oil, the light is a "nice to have" but shouldn't really ever come on. If memory serves, it comes on when it's like 2.5 quarts low.

Casper's Electronics (http://www.casperselectronics.com/store2/) can get any GM connector and pins if you need them.

nice, Napa sells the connector for $32! yikes!

anyways...anyone know how to remove that connector from the sensor? I found the broken wires but i can't figure on how to take the connector off. do I need to take the sensor out to disconnect the wire? looks like the connector is inside the big nut :S

IIRC, you can get a small screwdriver in there to release the clip on the connector.

Casper's may be able to do a little better than NAPA for a pigtail connector. You'd have to call him, though, since I don't see that particular connector on his website. He focuses quite a bit on the Turbo Regal market, having dropped a turbo 3.8 in an AC Cobra body. But he does have the newer connectors if you ask him - he helped me when I was rebuilding my flood-totaled Deville.

Re: low oil light is on but oil level is fine...

so I decided I can live without the oil level indicator thing for now. I will just tape off the ends. I did patch the o2 sensor wire and went for a test drive over to the laundry mat and on the way back about 10 feet from my house the power cut off completely...everything shut off, not like the car stalling but everything power related went out (radio, all displays, etc...) and the car coasted back to my house. It started right back up, no problems. I got under there and shook around the wires I was messing with but it wouldn't cut out again. any ideas what could cause that? i also tried shaking the starter wires...couldn't reproduce.

Drove it again since then and no problem...but I'd hate for it to happen again on the road somewhere. anyone know what could cause that? could I have shorted something?

The low oil sensor on my 93 Fleetwood Brougham came on intermittantly when the oil level was fine. I replaced the sensor, which was nothing more than two wires bent 90 degrees to the side. Now I wonder whether the sensor needs to be oriented in any particular direction (wires pointing sideways, up, or down). Anybody know for sure?
