I really, really want an astro roof...

Has anyone ever heard of an astro roof being installed on an '89? It would probably cost the same amount as buying another car, but man do I want one.

hit up some body shops and discuss it with them!

Maybe check some junkyards for a decent one for reference? I dunno man, never really been interested in them.

The only way to find out how much it will cost you is to ask around. Never been a feature I have been fond of (On any car) but that's just me, especially since on my car it would just be WRONG (though some modern hearses have huge sky windows in the rear)

If that doesn't work, maybe look into this?

The astro roof was an option for '89. I believe the car has the plumping installed for water drainage, and under the vinyl roof is a panel that gets cut out. Beyond that, it a matter of replacing the vinyl top, head liner, and finding the actual astro roof window to be installed.

I've had moonroofs on a couple other cars and have always liked being able to look up and out every once in a while. Probably won't mess with putting one in my car (rather save the money for nice white walls when I need them), but as I look for older caddies, I'll definitely add it to my features list.

    Just had to post that.
Sven basically closed my superstitions that an astro roof could be put onto any Brougham fairly simply (if not EXPENSIVELY)

You can get ones put in that look and work close the original. So close that that some people who own cars that have it done think it is original but they usually do a horrible job with it and look terrible on the inside.

Re: I really, really want an astro roof...

the easiest way to do it, which is not easy at all, is to find a wrecked caddy with an astroroof, cut on the pillars, cutting your car and then, doing all metal work.

If you try to cut the roof and install one, you will have leaking problems and structural problems, the metal on astroroof cars are stronger than the ones without it.

I used to have a 81 with the astroroof, is a shame i didnt care at the time, today i would kill for one in mine 78.

Wow. Cool. Thanks for the link, but I think I'm gonna forget about the Astro roof on my current car. It looks like a lot of trouble and money. I'll focus on a new paint job and improved performance instead.

Gornati, I bit late but I am looking for a white astroroof switch for my 1985 Eldorado. Are you selling this one in the image?
