I was always under the impression that Pennsylvania was the only cool state, and not just because all the zombie movies take place there. Broughams are common there (sometimes the plentiful RWD's and Zombies actually cross over) and my car kind of is considered NORMAL.

About 60-70% of all Hearse owners I have ever heard of in existence either ARE from Pennsylvania or WERE from there.
A friend of mine researched this through those Myspace club thingies and it turned out I was still right.

Oh yeah, and the cars are all rusty, because the roads are covered with salt for ten months out of the year.

    Groovy.

You're running the stock non-adjustable rocker arms right? If so, you can't screw them up (can't set 'em perfect either). The pivots bolt directly to the head. I think the torque figure is so you don't snap the bolts.

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

Today I brought the power washer home from my Grandfather's house. I got most of the engine bay degreased! I was really suprised with how good of a job just the water did with removing the slime.

Can't believe how easy the goo came off. I'm going to fog everything metal with some fresh black paint tomorrow. Just going to let it all dry tonight.

I also degreased my transmission. Looks a lot better than it did. Just road grime, no fluid leaks.

I also bought new engine mounts. (I'll post pics of them once they are installed.) These are the old ones still in the car. Does anybody have any idea if they can be put in where these old ones are, or will I have to fiddle with them and put them in the other holes? I've got to wheel my 350 out there and do some measuring.

    Thanks guys!

    Looking spiffy!

While the heart is out and you've got all that spare room to fiddle around, you can Rustoleum the inside, even if just to make it all look nice.

We can't have you showing up to the meet and having a Cadillac that DARES to try and have a rustier engine bay than mine.

even that shiny distribution bolt cover still amazes me.

If the distance is the same from the frame crossmember to the tranny crossmember as mine is, you will have to move them. I have a four door though, so I dont know 100%. You should be able to hold up the new motor mounts to verify but it looks like you already have the holes there.

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

^Thanks, CS. How hard are the engine mounts to change? I've never done anything like this before. Are there bolts on the bottom, or do they just thread into the frame at those holes? I assumed I'd have to move mine back to the other holes because since the Olds 350 Diesel was an option that year, I figured they would have two sets of holes.

Also, I did a little digging on RockAuto. As it turns out, the engine mounts for a HT4100 car are the same as the Olds 350 Diesel car. The bracket on each side of the engine that the long bolt goes through (the one that connects the bracket on the engine to the engine mount in the car) should fit either engine then. And, since the Olds 350 diesel block and the Olds 350 gas block are externally the same, that same engine bracket should fit my Olds 350. Woo Hoo! (I feel like Sherlock Holmes. )

The frame mounts aren't that easy to change. I usually try to avoid it if I can. If the bolts start spinning it's going to be next to impossible to get a wrench/socket on the back side with the suspension in the way. You better keep a doobie handy in case you blow a gasket lol.

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

The bolts go through, nothing threads to the frame. You should be able to get a long enough wrench through the hole in the frame, you may also be able to get to one from under the control arm. Also, I dont know if the frame mounts are the same. The second pic shows the stock 307 mounts from a 90. Its two pieces. Dont know if its what you need though.

this is the best pic I could find of the mounts

^That is precisely what I was looking for, CS. I have those engine-mounted mounts on my HT4100. I'd go outside and get pictures, but it's storming here right now. Tomorrow (weather permitting) I'll be outside painting and swapping accessories.

Takes a bow. (Now maybe they won't realize I'm just a kid from a small Michigan town that has NO idea what he's doing. )
