Exactly! Granted the wagon may not be THAT loud, but it's pretty loud, and that's half the fun of driving it on campus (That and parking next to the eco-tools and laughing)....

In a week or two, I'll be dragging Big Blue out of storage. Should be starting a new job soon. Thanks for the bump, Roo!

Ok, so I can't get the Cadillac out of storage until after June 18th, since my little brother's graduation party is that day, and it would be in the way of everything. I miss my car and want to start working on it again!

Did you ever get it together and drivable? I am currently working on my 81 coupe deville and swapping the 6.0 with an olds small block, plan was to have a 350 but couldn't find one for the price I could give so, I got a 307 for the time being hopefully it will at least roll down the road with that little of a engine. If you got it going, I wouldn't mind picking your brain a bit with it.

the 307 can roll these cars down the street pretty good. They're not fast at all but they cruise at a comfortable speed, especially if you're not doing highway.

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

as long as you dont try to race it (you'll look pretty stupid doing it) go for the 307. 5A heads and a 403 intake will net you about 160 hp. a 442 /HO camshaft will bring you up to about 185 or 190 when used with the 5A heads and 403 intake which still wont be a screamer but it will put your power up with the tbi 350 caddys.
in 7A headed form you wont be able to beat anything faster than a prius, but it will get you down the road ok. 50-70 power is good (car is geared for highway) but 0-60 and 75+ are lacking. I never had a problem with my 7A headed 307 (under 140 hp but 255 ft/lbs of torque). it climbed steep hills (might lose a few mph on a steep grade unless you floored it). It performed beautifully in the snow and ice too (had to go to work one day in a blizzard).
mileage is 15 mpg combined if you keep your foot out of it. once you open the secondaries your mileage goes down the crapper.
just beware of speeding. the 307 is quiet under normal driving conditions so unless you look at the speedo, you cant tell the difference between going 50 and 80.

Nice thread. What's the most recent progress. It was awesome reading this and it seems stuck now on page 23. Would love to hear how everything turned out!

If you've lost interest in the project, I'd buy that car not running in its current state.

I think Matt is somewhat occupied at the moment earning a paycheck to finance said project.

Holy Moly! I read 23 pages of the book to see the end result. Matt, where the heck are you? Did you get it running or was it an epic fail? Need to know because we are getting ready to replace the HT4100 in our 1985 Eldorado Biarritz. I would prefer to swap to another engine but don't want to try without reading the end of your story.

Matt still hasn't gotten around to the engine swap. LOL. He's got a car and an olds 350 in storage. I had no idea he had started on the project this long ago though.

I went to school with a girl named that....on second thought, I think it was a nickname.

Man I see what you guys are always bagging on him for...I never knew it was that long either. Still glad he stored until he can get to it instead of scrapping it.
