So your gonna make new mounts? Since your taking the frame mount off, what about bolting them on the engine mounts and centering it on the crossmember?

I'm just having the engine mounts widened and extended. I'm not removing the frame mounts. This way I don't have to remove the engine and I can still make the engine mounts fit the pads. My friend is going to cut off the bottom of the engine mounts and extend them down. Holes will then be drilled to fit the frame mounts. He is an AMAZING fabricator, and he says the extended mounts will be stronger than stock.
(He isn't just some guy, either. He runs the shop program at a local high school, and he builds period-correct cannons on the side.)

It's great to see some new progress on this project. That should be a pretty fun car with the engine it should have had!

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

I managed to remove the engine mounts today. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

I started by lifting the front of the engine so I could get to the bolts.

Just enough room for my rachet.

Here they are removed and ready to go to the metal shop.

So I wouldn't crush the oil pan, I wadded up this big piece of fabric and crammed it between the oil pan and the crossmember. Seems to be working pretty well.

I'm waiting on my engine mounts now. Fingers crossed that they will fit!

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

    YAY proper engine!

I am beginning to save for my engine, as I never know when it will pop up and I tend to have andom expenses like $8,000 Hoverounds, $10,000 loans, explosions, bullshit traffic tickets...

Anyhow, I hope when I get it done I can at least get some in-progress photos. Stealing somebody's camera is no problem, but it may be awkward for me to hang around the garage to take photos of their progress...

I've something new to envy, as not only do you have property to work on your own car, you've a welder who wouldn't think I was insane for asking him to assist me in the fabrication of a cannon. there is a chance I will live in Lakeland (not exactly soon, or anything remotely close to SOON) but that most likely means more property, which means Steam Surrey of DOOM as well as another project that randomly hit me when I parked next to this Chevrolet at Lowe's...

Finger's crossed, fill your boots, Boyo!

I can't get welding pictures, but I can update this more tomorrow. I'll be test-fitting the new mounts tomorrow before work, and I'll be sure to get plenty more pictures.

Re: 1984 Coupe DeVille Engine Swap!

Well, I don't know how I didn't reply to this huge thread but I usually throw my .02 on the engine mount questions. The engine mount you need Matt is from a 76-79 Seville. It might not matter because they are very hard to find anyway. It sounds like your welder will do a good job on the fabrication and as long as it's in straight and level that's all that counts. I think I would have scrounged up some 307 engine and frame mounts and welded them to the frame like csbuckin recommended several pages ago. You're on the home stretch now, cheers.

Matt may be a bit with this. There was a terrible issue with his Cavalier, but he assures me he is alright.
