speaker upgrade in 1969 DeVille

So my 69' still has the original radio speakers in the car. The original AM/FM radio works but the speakers are toast. I want to upgrade the speakers but don't know if I can. The originals are single wire MONO speakers...what are my options here?

Can you hook up just the one wire to new speakers? will it work?

So is the ground ran through the casing? No ground wire? I couldnt find anything on the web about that type of setup.

The front speaker grounds through the radio. The rear speaker grounds through it's casing to the parcel shelf support, which is part of the body. The front speaker is 8x10 and the rear is 6x9. I believe the speakers should be between 8 and 10 ohms resistance, but don't quote me on that.

So can you run a two wire speaker and run the second wire to a nearby ground? Finding a speaker for your app rated at 8-10 ohms may be a challenge.

The rear speaker runs off a single wire from the five-way connector off the radio. A second wire runs off the speaker to ground on the parcel shelf support. The front speaker uses a two wire lead off the radio, and grounds through the radio itself.
