Nice 82 Deville but NO KEYS!! Need Help!

Hey guys, I need help! I found locally a nice looking 82 Deville for sale. It is yellow with yellow looking interior (which I love!). I've only seen pics of it, but it looks in good shape. It has been in storage since 1991 the guy claims. and he says it only has about 60K on it. But it hasn't been touched since then. But he says there is no rust anywhere on the car. THE BIG PROBLEM however is he cannot find the keys for the car anywhere. He has the title, but no keys. I'm going to look at the car monday. He wants $350 for the car which I dont think is bad if the car is in that good of shape, but what do you guys think????? How do I fix the key problem, what would have to be done??? Need input!!!!!!

You can replace ignition lock cylinder. If the original key had a resistor installed (security stuff), you can bypass it by installing a matching resistor on car's side. You should try about 15 known resistors to find the one which works.

if its really that good of a deal, get the title signed first then worry about the keys. All you have to do is switch out the ignition switch.

I can 100% guarantee the key does not have a resistor in it.

Yes, just replace the cylinder. Or, the whole column (which is really easy). Then, new door cylinders/keys, too. Hit up a yard, find a car with the keys in it, and start taking it apart. You'll get your parts cheap, and you will learn how to do it so you won't have a problem on your car.

Or just call a mobile locksmith.

Mobile locksmith would work, but probably would be more expensive.

Then again, if you're getting the car for $350 I guess that isn't much of a problem either.

Unless the owner does not want you to start the car until you buy it.

Well then in that case he might be trying to hide something.

Maybe springing for the locksmith will be worth it.

I wonder if the FUEL in that car has been sitting in it since 1991.... Yikes.

If the car is really nice and rust free I was just gonna buy it with out hearing it run. I was gonna swap in a 350 anyways, but should i fire her up first???? I mean for $350 i don't think it matters much about running if rest of car is really good. . . idk, would you guys buy it?? Like i said i'm going to see the car on monday. so i'll know for sure but if you were in this situation what would you do??? just looking for advice.

Can't you just shove a flathead in the ignition cylinder and turn it like they do in the movies?

Seriously though, I'd go with the new steering column. Probably the cheapest and least headache.

hot wire it! Just break the ignition with a screwdriver, then splice the ignition wire and starter wire and there you go! Just make sure you have any key in the ignition so the cops won't mess with you in case they pull you over and they see no keys in the ignition. Just a suggestion.
