Need Help! OK UPDATE!! I went and looked at the car. and.....I bought it!!!! $300 The car was sitting in a garage that is to be demolished in a couple weeks. The body is MINT its colonial yellow with a mint yellow vinyl top!!!!! No rust anywhere!!! The chrome is great too!!!! The hood popped, and the engine bay looks very clean, just a few cob webs and dust. The only thing wrong exterior wise is the front driver's side plastic filler, which is a little broken, but still strong and mostly there. The rear fillers are in excellent condition. The problem is the interior, the seats are in great shape, no cracks, or tears. But the drivers side window was left down about half way, so there is a little mold on the seats and it smells. Its not black mold, but mold none the less. So i don't know if that will clean up??? Or will I have to tear out the interior and completely redo it?? But the body is excellent it looks like new, minus the inch of dust on it. Wire caps in great shape as well.
I told the guy I would take it. And he called the older woman who owned the car to tell her and she wanted to be there. So she comes down and brings with her the original window sticker, the original bill of sale from Braun Cadillac in Buffalo and the original title from 1982!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in shock!!! She told me that her husband bought it new in 82 and that he loved the car, but he got sick and passed away. So it sat in this garage since 1990!!! still has the registration sticker and inspection sticker!! The car is gorgeous!!! its just the interior mold and there is no keys, she can't find them anywhere, (oh and the 4.1liter). But I think i scored big time!!!!! She is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!
But if anyone has a mint yellow or white interior or pieces LET ME KNOW!!!!!
I'll post pics as soon as i can!!! |

Need Help! Congrats. DON'T try and start the car until you change the oil and the coolant. Make sure you add the tabs. I'm sure you know how to revive a stored car.
For the seat, is it leather? If yes, you should be able to clean it up. Wash it and scrub with a soft bristle brush. Use a diluted bleach solution to kill the mold. Once clean, condition it well. You can re-dye if you have to.
I have a MINT complete set of white D'Elegance seats. I plan to put them in my Pontiac. However, for the right price (and for a Caddy buddy), I might be persuaded to send them to a good home. The price will be more than you paid for that car, however (I also have blue leather if you like).
WE NEED PICS!

A friend of mine suggests to frame it? It's pretty cool to have to know that it has survived almost 30 years! |

I'd frame it, yeah, just to make sure it stays preserved. It'd be better than having it stuffed in a file cabinet or a drawer any day. |

Need Help! Before you go make keys, check around the inside of the car thoroughly. I have found duplicate keys in their car many times before. I found a set inside the garage opener/map light assembly once. And once taped in the owner manual.
You don't know what you might find if you look under the seats. |

Check the glove box. Sometimes the owner's manual is in a plastic sleeve, and the dealer would often put the key punch-out tags in there. They contain the codes any locksmith could use to make duplicate keys.
If the seats are leather, Jay's suggestion is a good one. If cloth, I suggest a good steam cleaning followed by a healthy dose of Lysol.
In any case, well bought! Post pics ASAP!!!.

Need Help! Still no dice on the keys. . . . . . Gonna look everywhere tomorrow and call dealer see what they can do. Called a few locksmiths prices ranged between $145 - $200 to make new keys. A little higher than i was hoping.(also got into a fight with one locksmith who swore the car key had a vats chip in it for that year! ) And AAA won't do anything unless car is registered. Looked into doing it myself, but I don't have a tool to take off steering wheel. And I can't tow her without getting her into neutral. So i NEED a key! Hopefully some luck tomorrow!!! I'll be searching high and low! I also pick up a nice 85 Seville I bought for $800 tomorrow! |

This would help also if you use a dolly because the steering wheel would still be locked. |

I guess the punch out tabs weren't in the glove box, then. |

Need Help! UPDATE! Well I had the car towed out of the garage it has sat in for the last 19 years! I'm now in the process of having keys made for it. She looks great, but the interior has the mold on it, gonna try cleaning it up after i get the keys. Unfortunately the rear bumper has a rust spot on it, I didn't notice in the garage but she is clean!!!!! The tow truck driver couldn't believe how clean she was underneath!
here is a couple pics I have so far: | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
