Anybody know a good source for some (cheaper) whitewall tires? I can't find any on tire-rack.com. I really like the Kelly Navigator Gold Series, but being a college kid with a movie-theater pay budget, I can't really afford them. They would be for the '84 DeVille. I'm not sure, but the tires on it may be origional. They aren't bald, but are starting to get down there. I was wondering if anybody has had good luck with these:http://www.walmart.com/catalog/deta...isVariant=false&corpCard=false&type=undefined

Yes, I know they are a wally world special, but people say they are a decent tire. Middle of the road reviews.
My old whitewalls will go on my '90 Brougham 'till I can get new ones (the fronts on there now are BAAAALD). Any tire input is greatly appreciated.
Alright so now I'm just debating tire sizes. I've been thinking 255/45r18 would be the way to go. Wide selection of tires to choose from. Probably would go with the Continental ExtremeContact DW or DWS. I have the DW on my Focus and I love it, but the DWS has a higher tread wear rating. The only reason I wouldn't do that is that it's a 27" diameter tire, while the stock 215/75r15 was 28". I'm not worried about the speedometer, just looks. I did see an Impala SS with 275/40r18s on the rear, and it looked great, and thats also around a 27" tire. If I want a 28", there's not a lot of choices unless I get something from Nitto, or fancy Perellis for a Rolls Royce that cost $350 each.
I went ahead and ordered a 255/45. I think the Impala SS had a 27" tire, and the extra width plus the 2" drop I have will make it look fine. I just ordered one though so if it doesn't look good at least I didn't waste too much money.
No, so it may have to be rebalanced. I'm also not too confident in my method of attaching the hubcap either. It could spin off, and it can also move side to side with enough force, so I need something more robust.
I think what I need is something like the wire hub cap adapters used on the 80s broughams. That would keep it from moving up and down, and then I could use a tab or two offset bolts to keep it from spinning. Or, maybe it should spin J/K
Haha. Alright I test fit it on the car today and it fits perfect. The diameter does end up looking a little small in the back though. From behind the extra width looks great, but from the side it looks kind of like I'm running a 205/75r15. Wondering if I should try a 255/55r18 on the back and just do 255/45 on the front, but then my tread will be slightly narrower in the back I think. I also thought of a way to center the hubcap better and keep it from moving around. I'm going to try and get a black ring made that will snap onto the hubcap's teeth, and fill up the space between the cap and the inside of the wheel. Not sure if I should get it cut from a sheet of ABS or what.

Quick photoshop with front and back. Happier with the back when you can't see the giant 235 on the front.
If anyone else gets inspired, I'd like to see someone use a wheel with more inset spokes and put factory wire hubcaps on it. I'm pretty much limited to these 78 Deville caps, or something from an Eldorado.
Progress is slow; I just painted the edge of a second wheel 2 weeks ago! Anyway, I'm not happy about the idea of attaching the wheel cover like I was. I want to drill holes in 4 of the spokes on the wheel, and then tap them for like an M6, and then clamp the wheel cover down with those. I'm just wondering if I should try to do it myself, or take it to a machine shop. I'm confident with my skills, but I know they're still not going to be as good as a machine shop would be.
SDCaddyLacky, I like the slightly wider WW but not the fact that they are 75 series tires. These cars should have 235-70-15, but that size is almost impossible to find in WW.

Very interesting approach here. It looks good and the overall tire diameter looks like a good match. As for me, I'll stay with the original series 70 or 75 (depending on the car year) but you have cool solution here.
Appreciate the comments everyone! Yeah I wish I had the chromey wheels instead of the standard aluminium ones, as they truly make these cars pop.
I am not sure exactly what national tire chain shop can obtain these tires, my best guess is to call around your local area's smaller tire shops and ask if they can get you a set of "Kingrun Geopower K1000" WW's. 2 of my local tire shop get these tires all day long and they are literally the perfect ww size and the sidewall is smooth and doesn't have any of annoying jagged lines grooved into the sidewall like the skinny half inch WW Hankook Optimo's do that ruins the look of the white wall personally.
These tires will give your Caddie the original classic stock look. :cool2: Screw paying an arm and a leg for the American Classic brand.:tisk::thehand:
You mean a car with these wheels? :cool2: These are (now unavailable :crying: ) Hankook Mileage Plus in the proper size 325-70-15. Real hard to find this size in WW at present. The DVC and STS are in the garage.
The whitewall thread has turned into the making-life-difficult thread. The illusion is ingenious, but it looks like a lot of work just to get some white walls. I'm glad I bought some WW's while I still could.
Yeah, it's a lot of work, but I can run any 255/45r18 tire I want, or ideally a 255/50r18 if they become more widely available. Plus the white is like 10x brighter, and instead of cleaning it, all I have to do is touch it up every once in a while when it gets nicked or scratched.
This isn't about "just buying some whitewalls" guys. He wants the larger wheels. I think it looks awesome, and it's innovative. Any schlub can go buy some 15" tires that'll roll over themselves in a corner. That's boring.
I drilled the holes, now I have to think of how to get the bolts to attach to the wheel cover. Kind of thinking I should get some stainless washers and have them welded on.
Alright, well, I finished 2 wheels, and put them on the front. I bought some galvanized wire and made some little clips that latch onto 2 of the teeth on the hubcap, and then have a hole in the center for a bolt. Then I have four of those, and I just bolt it down. I wish I would have drilled the holes with more angle though since it's hard to reach the bolt heads as you get them tighter.
Anyway, so now that I have that, I'm wondering if I should try to go wider in the back. I noticed the Ultra Bolt wheel comes in 18x10, 5x127, +0 offset, and all black with a smooth lip, so I might check it out, and if it looks good, go with a 285/40r18.
Hey guys I just purchased some new white wall tires 225/75 15's for really cheap ($65 each) where I live. They are a 1.3 inch ww and are a perfect white wall size for our old school Cadillac's. Plus the tread is of modern design unlike the crappy Coopers.
the odd thing is that these are off brand tires that I have never heard of, but they perform well and look great on my 94 Fleetwood.
They're called Kingrun Geopower K1000. I have a link here which is off some dealers website.
I have no idea how my local tire shop was able to get them, because they're a Chinese brand and there isn't much info online about the company.
They could possibly be imported, but I have had no issues with them so far and the Cadi rides much better with them too.
