I know this is sorta the wrong place to post this, but I figure I'll have better luck here..
Has anyone ever changed their front 4x6 speakers to 5.25 speakers? is it possible? this would be in regards to the 80's body style FWB.
I changed my fronts a couple years ago to newer 4x6" speakers, but im still not satisfied with their clarity and depth-ness..
Thanks,
Tabz |

I dont think this is going to fit without some modification. 5.25 around wont fit the driver side because the dummy lights get too close, but I'm not 100% on that cause I have a 90 |

You can always mount some 5.25 or 6.5" speakers in the lower section of the door where the shag carpet is. 90-92 cars with the optional CD player have a set of speakers there. |

I mounted 6.5's in the doors of my deville. If you don't mind cutting the door panels, I would say it's a great idea. The 6.5's were almost too big, maybe 5.25's would be a better idea I had to make a spacer so they sit out to clear the window. If you're not using subs, the 6.5's will give you the low end you need. I left the dash hooked up for highs, the doors for mids, and the deck full range all amped with old sonys and it sounds awesome. You can hear Lemmy's voice from blocks away. Here's a pic. It's before I redid the interior and put the speaker grills on (looks pretty rough in there). They look way better now. You could paint the grills to match the carpet. If you are looking to keep the car pure, disregard my reply, and I don't think 5.25's will get in the dash. I have a hard enough time with the aftermarket 4x6's. |

Hey, thanks for your reply's everyone. Would anyone recommend amplifiers for their 6x9 rears and 4x6 fronts? Would there be any added sound quality to the speakers? What im pretty much curious to know about is what the difference would be between a car that has an amplifier and one that doesnt? |

I always hated amps because I hated the adjustments and balancing. I liked to "plug and play". Now that I've developed some form of patience I can deal with the time it takes to set everything up, and I love it. My deville has 6 mid/high's amped and two subs (too many) and it's by far the best sounding (car) stereo I've ever had. If you can set it up and have good equipment, it can make a world of difference. Personally I always buy 80's or early 90's stuff, I just think the quality for the money is way better. My 40x4 old ass sony amp rocks my $4 flea market alpine door speakers. I love flea markets and pawn shops. |

Flea markets = godly. There's a huuuuuge indoor flea market near here too. When I get my car running, you bet that's where I'm running for some audio. lol |

Crappy pic with the camera phone, but you get the idea. The grills make it look a ton better. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
