How would I use it to detect leaks? | Coolant lights up under UV light. The best way to find leaks is from the under side of the car, because it glows in the dark (with a UV lamp) and you can trace the source of the leak better. You don't need anything "heavy duty," just something small enough to fit in your hand and get into tight spaces. |

1. Jack stands (I guess ramps won't be strong enough)?
2. Replace starter
3. Change oil and fill coolant
4. Battery
5. Start car, drive around the block a few times
6. Use UV Light to look for coolant leaks, check coolant for oil
And go from there I guess?
The symptoms I'm describing, do they point to a water pump problem at all, or is that totally off base? |

What about the $30 ones? They say 6500 lbs per pair. That's way more than the Fleetwood. |

A friend of mine, from high school, bought "Heavy-Duty Truck Ramps" from an online store. They were glorified ATV ramps, which buckled when he parked his S-10 on them. The store had an iron-clad warranty disclaimer, which he didn't read, so they wouldn't refund his dad's stolen credit card. |

I found a pair of 3 ton jack stands at Lowe's for like $30. I could pick those up, and hope that my car still has the jack in the trunk. (I still haven't opened it, kinda forgot lol) |

Remember, the floor jack is only to get the vehicle onto the stands, and not to hold the car in the air while you're under it. |

No way would I ever even TRY and get under that car with just a floor jack. That's a death wish practically. |

Bicentennial: he means PUSH literally, because my car has no battery or starter. I think he's onto something there this time. Ramps might be in the future though. (Like at the start of next semester of college when I get another $1400) |

I use it on all my cars, and my wife's... so someone with one or two cars will be ok |

This'll be good then. I should be able to have my car on the road by like, October at the latest now.
No worries bicentennial, that was earlier in the thread anyway. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
