Re: 87-88 FW 60 Special compared to FWB

Rear legroom in the lengthened C bodies, be it an 87-88 Sixty Special or any 89-93 DeVille, Fleetwood or Sixty Special, is substantial. In my '91 Cadillac brochure, on the Sedan de Ville spread, it mentions having the largest interior volume of any FWD car sold in America.

For a FWD DeVille/Fleetwood, legroom is 42.0 front/43.6 rear
For a RWD Brougham, legroom is 42.0 front/41.2 rear

In my DeVille, I have the driver's seat all the way back, and I can cross my legs in the back seat without touching the front seat. And I'm 6'0".

Re: 87-88 FW 60 Special compared to FWB

Yea, you get more legroom but if I remember right, it's not as wide as our RWD FWBs. I always thought the legroom in our Fleetwoods was paltry. Even looked into getting a 98/99 FWD Fleetwood or Lincoln L for the added rear passenger length but came to the realization of just how often I'm in the back seat. I'm not. I'm not back there all that much and nobody drives my car but me, really.

Re: 87-88 FW 60 Special compared to FWB

Before disappointment sets in, here's the specs on the 93-96, which is bigger in every single dimension (not just the ones we're talking about) than the boxy ones:

Front legroom: 42.5
Rear legroom: 43.9

Here's the thing.

99 Deville
Front: 42.6
Rear: 43.3

99 TC
Front: 42.6
Rear: 41.1

2006 TC Signature L (6" wheelbase extension)
Front: 41.6
Rear: 46.9

So even adding 6" to a Town Car's wheelbase is still only 3" better than a 93-96 FWB, which is still the highest of all the vehicles listed here, and in the post above (even if by just a tiny bit). Feel better now? I think only the 87-88 60 Special has a chance at beating the 93-96 FWB in rear legroom. Still looking for a spec on that.

Re: 87-88 FW 60 Special compared to FWB

Good to know.. does anyone know the specs on legroom in a 74-76 Fleetwood Brougham? Those just seem to be little limos (not really little) from stock. Even the 70s pillarless Deville seems pretty huge.

Or the Fleetwood 75? I saw a nice black one on eBay. I think it was a 70. I can't find the link now!

Nevermind, found it.

Is this a stock Fleetwood 75 or a coachbuilder limo?

I didn't know FWD models almost catch up RWD in regards to leg room . I would not lose a sleep for that

The '74-'76 brochures I found on the same side don't show legroom but there is some information that suggests what legroom IS.

Namely: On page 3, the '77 brochure (the first downsizing) says that "the Fleetwood Brougham retains the headroom and legroom of its spacious 1976 counterpart".

If that's true, and the '77 is basically identical to the FWBs made from 1977-1992, then it would be pretty close throughout, no?

In which case, it follows logically that the '74-'76 would have the same headroom and legroom as an '87 did.

http://www.fedrelandsvennen.no/amcar...lac/87_31.html (see seating capacity lower right)

Unless, of course

a) The change in the look of the roof from '77-'79 to '80-'92 models changed the headroom

or

b) The '77 brochure was a lie trying to convince skeptical '76 onwers that the legroom and headroom in the smaller '77 were just as substantial as their '76 had been so they would keep buying new Cadillacs.

Re: 87-88 FW 60 Special compared to FWB

Nice! Wow, just half an inch less rear legroom than the late model stretched Town Cars running around places like NYC. And all on the same wheelbase as a regular B-body.
