Doin' the headliner on my '92 d'Elegance...

Yeah the headliner was starting to sag and I just can't stand that! So It thought I'd tackle the task. After all, I did replace the headliner in my mom's '92 Deville with no major problems. I used the threads here as a guide and it worked great! (Jay was it you?)

Anyway, my d'Elegance has an astroroof and I have a problem. I can easily redo the the cloth on the board itself, but how can I get to the sliding panel to recover it? It seems to be caged in behind the welded metal of the sunroof assembly. Any thoughts?

Check it out!

The car, yay!!

The headliner...

The dilemma

I know it looks okay, but I want to replace it, because it sags on humid days and it want the colors of the new material to match too.

And here's a neat trick I learned for removing the foam. Use a cat hair brush. Not the sticky kind, but the brush for removing excess hair from the cat itself. Cost: $0.99 at the dollar store.

Thanks,
Greg

Yep, it was me. Glad it helped. GREAT find on the pet brush! I'll add that to the tool box

I've never done one with an Astro. Anthony likely knows how to get that panel out. I'll see if I can look it up in my manuals for my 81...

Did GM suddenly figure out how to do headliners on 91+ B-bodies and 93+ D-bodies or is that coincidence that those models don't seem to ever have problems?

Re: Doin' the headliner on my '92 d'Elegance...

Hmm.. I don't know when they got right. But I did notice, the FWD Deville's headliner board was a slightly-flexible board that seemed to be some kind of particle/fiber material that was molded. But the Brougham's board is a rigid styrofoam thing that breaks very easily. Mine broke a little, but I'll just tape it all back together.

But I guess that wouldn't affect the cloth separating from the foam, unless heat levels were decreased. But I did have to do the headliner in both, so I guess that's not much to say for either. The foam does stick very well to the board, it's the cloth that separates from its foam. That tells me that GM foam-cloth supplier is at fault.

Re: Doin' the headliner on my '92 d'Elegance...

Must come out somehow. I know i have a parts car with a roof in it, that the slide is sitting in the back seat. so it either broke and fell out or the last owner took it out. I will have to figure it out myself, as thats the roof that will be in my 81....
And i dont have my 90 FSM handy...
LMK if you find out...
