B-pillar cover replaced!

I seem to keep making new threads for stuff. Hope nobody minds.

I got my shipment of parts from parts.com last night. It came from some GM dealer in Tampa, FL. They seem like a GM Parts Direct, but with actual customer service and the shipping is not a percentage of the total. The prices also seemed very competitive.

What I ordered:
Center radiator air deflector
Right side air deflector
Right side plastic cover/diffuser that the right deflector bolts to (big hole under the battery at the moment)
Replacement antenna mast kit (200 and 300 rod only)
B-pillar cover
Trunk pop solenoid

Now we're cooking.

The center deflector is torn and half falling off and the right side must have run over something since the deflector is missing as is most of the cover/diffuser. Antenna works now (see audio thread). Trunk pop solenoid was working maybe 75% of the time. Now it should work 100%.

And my favorite: brand new B-pillar cover in dark adriatic blue.

Witness:
Before

After (forgive the still-filthy interior - it's on my list)

I guess I could have saved some money reupholstering it but for $58 I think new is clearly the better option. The pass side is wearing but holding up (they didn't have any - I asked). I'm just amazed I was able to get a brand new one.

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

Wow...great find. Never even knew about that site, with just ordering all that I do directly from GM through a few different sources. My favorite, with awesome service, and great people & prices that I just stumbled upon--it's a local PA dealer--last year:

http://www.gmpartshouse.com

But awesome and you sure are cooking now with parts! Time to do similar with mine, still, from a new quarter panel chrome strip (ordered) to a working antenna (used, coming). It's that season

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

Interesting. I checked that site out and it looks like they're all using the same parts search engine. If you create an account with Parts.com, there's actually a messaging system and you can communicate with the parts guy. Or just call.

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

Nice! The pillar on my wagon is starting to wear by the seatbelt, I am going to buy a replacement now! I didn't think they had any left.

Yeah, more so that Parts.com is using the same system as the manufacturer's--it's familiar to GM parts sites, Ford, and others. Common system, I think.

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

Me either! My 94 is worn though now, it was thin when I got it, and didn't take long (1-1.5 years) before I wore it through. I think I rub it on the way getting in the car.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that...from the time I looked at my first '93-96 Fleetwood up close and it was worn through. At least with me, getting in and out, I've never touched that pillar once. But maybe that's just how I get in or where I have the seat. Odd.

Actually, I think our '93s red one finally wore through and is very thin on the driver's side. Happened a while back, and we were toying with the idea of just stripping both down to plastic and painting them, a-la Caprice and Roadmaster. Problem is, the Fleetwood pillars are sort of dependent on the material to be fully formed and attach/sit correctly (I think), and it just wouldn't look right. So, one day (SO far down dad's list), I think it'll be burgundy colored material from the craft store, and it will be redone.

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

That was my plan to do to mine, get some upholstery fabric and a friend of mine used to do some upholstery to give me some tips if I need it. Get some good upholstery glue and some patience and it should look as good as new.

Are you serious the Roadies and Caprices were painted?

Re: B-pillar cover replaced!

Painted with a grain texture. Of course, ours are smooth. For once, I wish I had a black interior Just rip the cloth off and you're done!
