I'm on outskirts of Christchurch, where gas is also $1.93 a liter Grrrrrr
Its good to see a fellow NZ er here, your deville really suits that blue color. For shipping i used an agent in California named Ray Burns and then my contact for customs brokering was Koru Customs. Do they let you keep the title and other such papers? I had to hand mine over to the compliance center I get to keep the plates but not the the title
Thanks,
How long ago would that have been when you saw in los gatos lochenjons? The car was bought from san Jose, talk about a small world eh?
Size is one of the things i like the most about these cars, so unapologetic yet still elegant at the same time, i', hoping to learn more about the more technical "hands on" stuff as i go along.
here are some pics when it was in San Jose, rego was 4dep238
Thanks for the extra pics! Even the engine compartment looks clean along with the interior----truly amazing condition after 32 years.Congrats on finding a true classic!
I got a letter from the seller asking for all the paperwork back anyway as the DMV were on her back, so I really had to have it all returned. I just presented that letter and I got everything back from VTNZ when I collected the car. About 2 weeks later I got the Title with my name on it.
I know a lot of people here get the title returned to them. Why the the LTNZ want to hold on to now-defunct paperwork is beyond me.
The VTNZ guy said a lot of people say their car is a limited edition or whatever and ask for the title back for authenticity etc. You could try that, LTNZ probably don't know a Caddy from a Cortina anyway :-)
I'm not driving it much at the mo' as the carb's being rebuilt. I can't wait to go for a looonnngggg cruise (screw gas prices!) And I love the EATCO2 plate idea. I actually wanted FRUGAL but it was gone. Best one I've seen was on an Edsel up here, it was a message-style plate which said POLUTA and the message read "Helping create hotter summers". I'd park it in front of Green party HQ.

Of course that would imply that you actually believe your car could possibly make a significant contribution to atmospheric CO2 and/or climate change...which it can't.
Beautiful Brougham. Congrats.
Chrome is a porous substance. If you can see those little black dots on the surface, your looking at oxydation. Metal polish is the only way to go. Amway makes a great metal polish, if you can get one of their reps to sell you some without having to buy a franchize. Mother's also makes a very good metal polish, and there are numerous others.
If you let it go too long, the oxidation can work it's way down to the steel and then the steel will oxidize and rust will build under the plating. That's when you start to see those little bubbles and it's too late for anything accept replating.
If you Kiwis can get it, a fellow here in West Hartford, Connecticut had a vanity plate on his 500 cubic inch Cadillac that said:
GASHOG
So you might try to get that one !
