However, the motor needs repair, so it won't go down automatically. I know of a place to get it fixed, but will it cause any further damage if I manually open and close it? I feel like that would work for a while until I save up enough money to actually get it fixed. So, any ideas?

| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: Convertible Top Issue hi i see you have a 78 lecabriolet with a top problem do not put it down manualy you will rip the top. i own a 79 lecabriolet also had that problem when i bought it its a cheap fix the motor is $220 and the pumps are 150 each you should change all the hosses too just to be on the safe side hope this helps good luck. |

The thing is it goes down well, but to put it up I have my brother hold the button and I'll push it about half way, then it takes it from there. | | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | | Re: Convertible Top Issue i installed them myself i have some pics on car domain i dont alot about computers so i have to learn how to put the pics. the install is not too hard you need to take all of the interior out of the back section the pumps are tricky cause the need to be adjusted but its all common scence the motor is in the trunk 4 screws and the hosses check maybe you just need the motor take the back seat out check for any fluid leaks if you have no leaks its just probably the motor or the motor might need fluid it has a rubber grommet take it off if fluid does not come out its low add some and check it. |

Trying to lower it without doing this can hydrallically lock the assembly and may bend something? |
