My Corner Lamps and Front Parking Lights Arent Working! HELP

Remove this ad
I have a '88 Brougham. All of my tail lights are working, as well as the rear side marker lights. However, My front parking lights and the corner turn lights aren't working.
Now get this: The front turn signals (under the headlights) work fine. But the parking lights are inop. I've changed ALL the bulbs...nothing. I checked the fuses and the 10amp fuse marked "CNR LGHT" is blown. So i replaced it. As soon as i turn the lights on, even the parking lights, it blows. So I decided to put a 30amp fuse in there. It doesn't blow, but then the rear parking lights blow. I dont get it. So, I replace the rear parking light fuse and tried the 10amp for the front again. the front still blows.

I went to my trusty mechanic. He couldn't look at it because he was swamped with work. I told him what I discovered, and he said that the front lamps are at least getting power, which is good. He then said it may be grounded out somewhere.

I'm mechanically inclined, but I've never encountered this type of electrical problem. Can someone PLEASE steer me in the right dirction as to what to do to fix this, what tools to get, etc.

I'll greatly appreciate it.

You have a short. Somewhere at either a cornering lite socket, or park light socket. So, you need to visually look at ALL wires to the affected bulbs for one touching metal or a corroded socket. I cannt believe you've never dealt with a wiring short? You're very lucky. You NEVER replace a fuse with another of higher capacity unless you want to put out an electrical fire. A rusty socket is the most common cause.

I checked the sockets for rust or corrosion...nothing.
I looked up the schematics and it's a brown wire that runs the parking and corner lights. I followed the wiring all the way back to the fuse box connection on the inside fire wall, the wire was in tact. I wasn't able to check the wiriring under the nose behind the grill. I also took ALL the bulbs out, then turned it on...it still blew the fuse.

All these lights get power first thru the turn signal switch. Unplug the turn signal switch. The affected wire will be intact but touching metal somewhere.
