| | | 86 Brougham Stereo Question What's happenin? My grandpa just gave me his 86 Brougham with 83,000 miles on it. First thing first, that factory stereo has to go. My question is how do I fit the stereo in the dash plate? Do i have to cut it to make room for the DIN? I really don't want to do this just in case I ever seel it and want to put the stock stereo back in. Is there an aftermarket dash that will fit a normal size CD player. Thanks for your help!

| | | Re: 86 Brougham Stereo Question My '85 is the same way, it uses the "shaft" style radio. You have two choices: 1) cut the original dash to fit a din with the sleeve in there (I had that done to mine), OR 2) Get the same color dash from a newer brougham (87-89) from your local yard, and then you can use a dash kit to fit a din in there. That center part of the dash on the 87-89 uses the larger GM radio, so you should be cool like that. |

| | | Re: 86 Brougham Stereo Question Geeze lol, now you've got me thinking on what to do with mine.
I notice you have the Fuel Data module. Mine did not come standard with that, just a filled up spot, but I did pick one up from the junkyard assumning I could install it. There was no wiring for it though, but can I assume if I take all the wiring from one which does, I could install that...I think... |

| | | Re: 86 Brougham Stereo Question The 86's didn'thave it because they weren't fuel injected. It did work in my blue 85 when I put the olds 350 in but I used an EST distributor (no vacuum advance, electronic advance.) |

| | | Re: 86 Brougham Stereo Question Does this apply to the 87 Brougham as well? I'm trying to replace the stereo with another AC-Delco, to keep the stock look but get a CD player. Might have to just go with the 'car kit' with that annoying tape deck adapter =(
BTW, what exacly does 'Symphony Sound' refer to on these decks? Is it a Bose product as I've heard it, or is it just a name?
