83 cadillac trunk troubles

I have a 83 cadillac deville sedan. My trunk will not close. Right now it has a couple of rubber cords holding it down to the bumper. it looks like that it get almost all the way and then it just stops for no reason. The motor in it work fine and it look like the latch dosn't latch onto the striker on the motor.

First, check to make sure the latch is lined up correctly and that it's catching completely. Is the pull down mechanism fully extended? Then, press the reset button on the pull-down motor (it's the square button next to the latch on the pull-down motor). If everything is lined up right and the motor is working properly, the trunk lid should be pulled down to the fully closed position. Wish I could see it for myself to get a better idea of what you're dealing with. Any hope of pics?
