91 Brougham project - Vinyl top?

Remove this ad
Hey guys,

I'm painting my 1991 Brougham D'Elegance jet black with a nice gloss.

What's a good color, besides black, for the vinyl top?

Anyone seen / have pics of a white or tan top on this particular model?

thanks!

btw
I'm not putting 20" rims on the car if that helps.
If I did a white top I might put white wall tires on to match....would this look ok?

Re: 91 Brougham project - Vinyl top?

I haven't seen a picture of one, but i saw one going down the highway once, it looked pretty nice. I'd have to say that if you're going to go with any color other than black, tan is it. White would contrast it way too much, if it's done right, a nice tan color can give it a faux-convertible top look. Actually, it really depends what color the interior is/is going to be

Though personally, I'd stick with black.

Re: 91 Brougham project - Vinyl top?

The interior is currently a saddle (sp?) beige color. If I got the top in the same color at the interior it would really save me time/money as far as dying the plastic (dieing?) /reupholsterying the interior goes.

Well I guess I'll paint the car and see how it looks with the cracked beige top is has now and atleast then I can get an idea of how it will look.

Any idea where to grab the rear bumper fillers for the rwd brougham?

Re: 91 Brougham project - Vinyl top?

yeah, if you're going to go with a different color like that, make it match the interior, and tan/beige is still your best bet in my opinion.

As for bumper fillers, you could check ebay, there's a number of these cars being parted out, but they're probably going to sell you the rubber fillers that were factory, which may only last a few more years anyway

a better solution would be to get them from steele rubber. They sell them made out of fiberglass (ironic, ain't it?). They cost about 200 clams for the pair, but it'll be worth it in the long run, they won't crack or fade.

as far as the bumper fillers went, i had a welder i work with make mine out of sheet steel, it works a lot better, and they dont warp or cracc, plus the paint matches perfect
