Should I trade my 76 Coupe for an Eldorado?

Remove this ad
Hey There,
I am selling a 76 Coupe DeVille for $7,500 and I was contacted by someone who wants to trade for an 80 Eldorado Biarritz. He clamis the car is a strong #2. It is black with a black top and leather, is fully loaded and has the California spec 350 engine. It has an astroroof and the factory aluminum wheels. Mileage is somewhere around 40k, supposedly documented. What do you think that this is worth, providing the information is accurate? Either way, I need to sell it. I was thinking that the Eldorado would be worth more because of the lower mileage and rare engine. My Coupe DeVille is in strong #3 condition, with all original paint and a couple of small rust bubbles around the vinyl top and a mint leather interior and nicely detailed engine compartment.

I'm just trying to find out whether you think an 80 Eldorado Biarritz with the 350 Olds and 40k is worth more in your opinion than a 76 Coupe with 96k

Re: Should I trade my 76 Coupe for an Eldorado?

What color is your coupe?

Personally, I'd rather have the coupe than the eldorado. I was never a big fan of the eldorado, at least not the 1980.

Plus 76 was one of my favorite caddy years, especially for the fleetwood.

Ultimately, the choice is up to you, but mileage aside, I'd take a 76 coupe over an 80 eldorado any day.

Re: Should I trade my 76 Coupe for an Eldorado?

Me, too. I much prefer a '76 CDV over an '80 downsized Eldo.
I like the CDV's larger interior and trunk space and the rear-wheel-drive.
The '76 Cadillacs also have a better reliability record than the '80 Cadillacs.

If it was me I'd never trade a '76 Coupe for an '80 Eldorado. I've never been a big fan of Eldorados post '78. Until the ETC was born that is.

I would also third the notion of keeping the '76 over '80. If it was the same year Eldorado... I would switch in a heartbeat given the same mileages and conditions. There is nothing more stately than the size of a car...

Re: Should I trade my 76 Coupe for an Eldorado?

Make sure eldo does not have diesel, 4100 or some other weird engine. You will be disappointed with ride. Ride is a function of wheelbase. Eldo also had a stiffer suspension--sport package, sort of.
