Re: 1993 fleetwood

Any drive shaft out of 91-96 Caprice, Roadmaster / 94-96 Impala SS, all b-body wagons, Caprice, Roadmaster or Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. And of course all 93-96 Fleetwood’s .. there are probably more but this should get you there.

Actually, Kenny's wrong (but still a good guy!)

The D body Cadillac is longer than the B body (all the other cars he mentioned). Therefore, those shafts won't interchange. To replace a Caddy shaft, you need one out of another Cad.

I knew someone was going to say that ..

Actually you’re wrong … .. yes the Fleetwood is 4” longer .. but .. the engine is moved back under the dash 4” so YES the driveshafts are all the same ..

Correct. I'm not sure what XXL-VETE is thinking here, especially not having had several of these cars, but the key difference between a D-body Fleetwood and a Caprice or Roadmaster is SIMPLY being cut right in the middle and the extra length added there to both the frame, floorpan, AND driveshaft. Otherwise, nothing is different, and you'd have the same thing if you made a special Caprice that was slightly extended in the middle.

No engine being shifted back or anything like that. Same structure, firewall, etc., just different body panels and those extra middle inches.

SO, if you want a driveshaft, you need one from a Fleetwood.

Re: 1993 fleetwood

What was I thinking?

OK; a little back ground first .. I currently own 6 of these cars all parked out in front of my house .. the first was my 95 Impala SS acquired in February of 1995 .. since then I have added to the stable a 1996 Impala SS, 94 Caprice 9C1, 92 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, 93 Fleetwood and finally a 96 Fleetwood, With that said and 12 years of experience working on ever area of these cars, I can tell you that the engine placement / firewall area between the Fleetwood and the Caprice / Impala SS are totally different .. when you are standing here looking at them side by side it’s very noticeable .. here are a few photo..

96 FLEETWOOD

94 CAPRICE 9C1

what you are looking at is the distance between the back of the fire wall and the silencer we call “home plate”

When we started modifying these cars back in 1994 it was thought that the drive shaft in the Impala SS were as long as they could be without a carrier bearing. I just had the driveshaft out of a Fleetwood last weekend and I “ASSUMED” (yes I know what that spells ) it was the same length because of the carrier bearing thing .. it sure looked the same.. but to be honest I didn’t measure it ..I have since gone out and measured the Fleetwood and the Impala’s drive shafts to see the difference.

93 FLEETWOOD = 61 3/8”
95 IMPALA SS = 56 ½”

must have been a 1 D ten T problem … LOL

so I am an idiot

anyway .. hope this clears it up ..

Kenny

Re: 1993 fleetwood

Haha, well, I never knew that, and that really makes me wonder. Theoretically, layout and all, they should be identical as far as cowl, engine placement, front structure, etc...so I really wonder what the difference is. Because if it really was set back more, things like all the Impala intakes wouldn't drop right in. So maybe just a cowl difference? Weird. The platforms were just too much the same for one to have something as significant as the engine set back farther for one.

Re: 1993 fleetwood

Maybe try rockauto.com, use their java applet parts locator thing on the site. If they sell driveshafts then find the part number you need. From there you should be able to cross-reference it to other past vehicles that use the same part number....

Just a thought.
