Northstar rebuild

I have read some postings claiming that the Northstar engine can not be rebuilt. Is this true? If so why not ? If this is not true why is this disinformation not being challenged by Cadillac inorder to protect the reputation of what I think is a very fine piece of engineering. I respectfully request the courtesy of a reply. Thanks in advance.

I have interest here also. I have been told the same thing about rebuilding the Northstar. I am having an engine problem (oil pressure) on my 97 Eldorado and looking at a remanufactured engine now...new ones are very expensive. Sure would be much cheaper if a rebuild could be done. Anybody have any answer/advice?? Thanks

From what I have found out a rebuild can be performed on this motor. The thing that really confuses me is the lack of communication from Cadillac concerning this issue. They could put this issue to rest with better communication, education, supply, and availability of parts. This would go along way in protecting the huge investment they made in developing this engine as well as making their customers happy. Word of mouth endorsements of the Northstar system can go a long way in improving Cadillac's image and market share among the newest generation of buyers. To neglect the NS rebuild issue is not a wise move.

I agree completely. As the owner of a 1994 Cadillac Concours, who loves his car, If the engine ever failed, I would want to replace it, rather than replace the car with a 55,000.00 2005 Cadillac DTS, the comparable model. Thanks

I also have a '99 Deville De'Elegance with a bad Northstar. Shouldn't GM admit that these engines had a problem and at least offer us an incentive to buy a new car? Why don't they make some kind of an offer to all those that were burned and now are looking to buy from a different manufacturer!
