Is a limited slip differential required with RWD

With the length of Canadian winters, how important is it to have a limited slip differential on a CTS?

Looking at buying a rwd 2008 3.6 SFI auto with no limited slip diff.

The limited slip appears to only be available on 2008 CTS's with the performance package.

It's not a big issue. I drove a 3.6L CTS with an open diff all winter long with no winter tires.
