check oil level?

Remove this ad
i let my mom use my car to go on a trip (2000 sls) she brings it back to me. i get in start it up and it says check oil level. needless to say i hop out and check it. the oil is barely touching the stick....so i filled it back up with oil and it still didnt help.
so thinking how smart these cars are maybe it needs the oil changed after this many miles was put on it....didnt help. so i got to thinking on my moms old car you could push and hold a certain button to reset the change oil light after you changed the oil.... not sure if this car has that but anyone know if it is a bad sensor? or if there is just a code i can clear.

Re: check oil level?

The Check Oil Level indicator and the Change Oil indicator are two different things. As far as I know, if you added oil to the proper level on the dipstick then the Check Oil Level light should have gone out.

Re: check oil level?

Yup. Bad sensor. Possibly just an oily connection though. Check that first.
