Engine Stall

I recently took my 99 SLS on a a road trip about 800 miles total. Everything went fine, until I was about a half mile from my house and the car just died while sitting at a stop light for no apparent reason. I checked the codes and got P1599 (Engine stall, duh) and U1255 (communication error). Can anyone give me advice on what I could do or what the problem is, I definately can't let this keep happening.

Although, the 2000 and later Northstars had the most problems with the Crankshaft position sensors, it is not out of the realm for them to go on 99 and earlier, I had to replace mine on my 99STS, and it was doing the exact same thing you are describing. These parts are not expensive, but can be problematic to replace. Good luck and good hunting.

That is a classic symptom of the CKP sensor failure. Be advised, there are 2 "A" & "B" sensors. If you replace one, replace both. They are above the oil filter adapter.

Damn the crankshaft position sensors suck. Honestly, a new thread every week about these things. Couldn't there have been a recall? it seems to have a high fail rate.

No recalls unless it threatens your lives.
