$8.99 for a gallon.

Pre 2000 Northstars have more friction, and require more ZDP to prevent wear.

Modern oils have been decreasing ZDP due to it's ill effects on catalytic converters.

Rotella and the other Diesel oils have more ZDP, to prevent wear to your engine.

Although it is alleged that the 1993-1999 Northstar works fine with 15W-40, (and I used Rotella at that weight to top-off the oil between oil changes--with an original 10W-30 fill) with no ill effects. There is a possible hit on fuel economy.

O'Reilly also carries the AC Delco oil filter for $3.49.

Just thought I'd share!

Is this synthetic? I'm running the 5w-40 synthetic Rotella....... don't want conventional oil, because I don't have an oil cooler.

Nope. Dino. I didn't even look at their synthetic, but if they make it it may be available there.

Re: Found Rotella 10W-30 at O'Reilly auto parts

My N* consumes, burns, loses, whatever, a quart of oil every 800 - 1000 miles. I have been following all the forums on the subject and it appears that this is not unusual. Will switching to one of these oils reduce consumption without any other ill effects? If there is a way to do that I would be interested as long as there is no major loss of power, gas mileage, or performance. Which oil would be recommended if in fact there is a better choice? Thanks!

Mugs,
The best way to reduce oil consumption is regular WOT treatments and don't top it off. Full is actually about half way between min & max if you have the cable type dipstick with the brown tip on it.

My 96DeVille has taken a fond likeing to Rotella 15W40. This winter it is 10W30-Dino in the crank w/ 15W40 Quarts added as needed to, "keep it on the stick.". K_C
