Smoke at startup?

Remove this ad
My DTS has about 60k miles on it. Ever since I got it (about 46k) I've noticed that I get a puff of blue smoke (oil) at startup, but only when the car sits for a long period of time (more than a few days). Does the Northstar have traditional 'valve guide seals'? What else could be causing this (I have no intention of fixing it, but I am curious as to the cause).

Jim

MIne does the same thing, 2000 N* 90K
it started a few thousand miles ago, or maybe that is when I noticed it, because it has been burning 1 quart about 1 thousand miles..
