Smile oil consumption cured

I was using about one quart per 1000-1200 miles driven on my sweet 2002 Deville. I under stood the Nortstar used quite a bit of oil as a norm, but that was excessive. The dealer put me on an oil consumption trial and after the third visit my baby was admitted to the Cadillac OR for engine surgery. She got new pistons rings etc. I am happy to say she purrs like a kitten and uses less than half a quart per 3000 miles. So if you have the problem, there is a fix. Warranty is a wonderful thing.

Re: oil consumption cured

Actually 1 qt per 1000-1200 miles is not abnormal and is infact good. The rings and cylinder walls will last forever. Go to the top left of this page. Click on Technical Archives and read up on oil consumption. It was written by a well respected GM powertrain engineer. Once you understand it, you won't consider it a "problem".

My '97 used about what your was. My current '02 uses much less and I almost feel guilty adding a qt. much less than I used to.
