I currently use a Mobil-1 M1-206 (PF59) oil filter on a 4.6L. Can I use a Mobil-1 M1-203 (PF24) in its place? The M1-203 is a little over a 1/2 inch wider. Gaskets are the same size...

M1-206, 3W x 4 1/4L, 13/16-16, ADBV, no-BPRV
M1-203, 3 5/8W x 4 3/8L, 13/16-16, ADBV, no-BPRV

The M1-203 is a 1/4 of an inch wider in radius. Is their room on te 4.6 to handle the added width.

Please let me know what you think...

Is there any reason that you want to use the other one over the one you are using currently??

The 203 offer about 35% additional filter media. In addition, I have 19 of them extra from a 206 purchase...

anything bigger than stock probbaly wont fit. there is almost zero clearance between the filter and frame.

I'd just try it and see next time you change the oil -- if you have a bunch of the bigger ones laying around anyway. The PF-24 has the same gasket size and thread size as the PF-59. Oldsmobile V8s have been calling for the 59 for a long time (used to be the PF-42 I think). I used to use a PF-24 on my Oldsmobiles engines, just cuz it was bigger than the 59.

Personal hunch -- like others have said, the frame is very close to where the filter mounts and I doubt it will fit. But go for it next time you go to change your oil!
