How To Reset Oil Life Meter?

Remove this ad
The lazy bums at the dealer forgot to reset the oil life meter in my car, so now I get the "Change Oil Soon" message every time I start the car, and it's annoying.

How do I reset it??

Turn car on, press gas three times, and it should go away. If you can access the oil life through the IPC, just get to it and press reset.

hit information until it goes to the oil life meter. then hold reset until it clears... it should take about 5-10 seconds of holding it....

This should probably go into the "FAQ" section when we get it going.. It seems like an FAQ.

Need help

Question? I recently purchased a 93 STS w/130K. I had the oil changed, and have tried both procedures for clearing the oil life index. (pressing the reset and pressing accelerator 3 times no luck) It's now at 77 and now I'm starting to get a service engine soon message. Is this because of the index not being reset or something else?

It was a used car that did not have an owner's manual. So I have relied heavily on this forum to get guidance.

Please Help.

if you just press it, it wont do anything. You have to hold it for about 10 seconds before it resets. Its like that so you cant accidently reset it.

Lightbulb

Well I figured it out. On my car, I have to hold the reset and the Store/recall button together, after I bring up the Oil Life index. It reset back to 100.
