old engine, bad engine?

would a northstar engine that was shrink wrapped, openings taped, and properly stored, oil and coolent kept in it, with low miles on it sitting for 9 years , still be runnable?? or should it be rebuilt

You answered it...properly stored. We have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!

If it truly was properly stored I'd take a chance on it. N*'s are too expensive to rebuild. See if it spins smoothly with a wrench on the crank. Look down the plug holes. Drain the oil (if there was any) and see if there's any sign of rust/contamination.

It should be fine. Turning the crank to confirm that it turns freely is a good idea. I wouldn't worry about it otherwise.

I'll clarify turning the crank...Remove the plugs first. You want to see if the crank moves smoothly or if there are points that bind. That would indicate rust on the cyl walls.
