Possible to run northstar on an engine stand or outside of the car?

I am curious to know if it is possible to run a Northstar engine outside of the car. If it is how would you go about hooking up the electronics of the engine so it can start. I know that
you would have to hook up the radiator and a few other things to keep it running properly as well.

I don't think its possible, too many connections, plus the fuel injection, but don't quote me on this.

Not uncommon to run an engine on a stand or specially built jig - I do it occasionally for Olds 455 marine engines.

Just that a Northstar (or any other PCM controlled engine) takes a few more engine management controls hoops to jump through. No, I've never run one of those on a stand.........there has to be a way.

he must have figured someway of doing it. What about using the wiring harness from the car and hooking it up just like it was in the car.

GM did it at WOT for 300 hours (12.5 days) straight during testing so there IS a way.

Look closely - see all those snakes coming from the engine, headed toward the camera ?

Re: Possible to run northstar on an engine stand or outside of the car?

wow so it was put through torture to make sure it performed well. I am currently taking my Northstar out of my 94 STS and I have the pcm and wiring harness for the engine out as well. I'm thinking that if I hook up the connects and supply power to the pcm, it might run. That is what I think, granted easier said then done. I am guessing the VATS system might prevent it from working.

You might look up the Northstar engine and its lineage descent from the Lotus DOHC racing engine developments in the late 80"s.
