Head gasket removal, best practices

Remove this ad
98 STS, need to clean off head gaskets. Plastic or wood scraper, and what is the best chemical to assist?
-alcohol
-brakekleen
-mineral spririts
-??????
Suggestions please! Thanks!

ps- using scotch brite would be a big no-no, yes?
