Not complicated at all. Depressurise fuel rail. Disconnect fuel supply line. Disconnect injector harness (at each injector). Unbolt manifold and lift it off. Not sure what the torque settings are for reinstallation.

You don't even have to disconnect the wires at the injectors. All the wires come together, then go through a hole on the TB side of the intake manifold, then straight into a fat gray plug underneath the TB.

Maybe I'm just thinking about how to completely remove the intake manifold though.

Re: changing starter on 1998 deville--have you done it?

ranger, thanks for the link you sent me but i have a question on the torque.........in the haynes manual on the 4.6L v8 engine it says to torque the intake manifold bolts to 89 in-lbs.......but this was totally different than what that guy had stated in the link you directed me to..........i'd like to do this job myself after reading the link but what scares me is getting the correct torque......if anyone could help me with the exact torque or double check the torque settings for me i'd really appreciate it........also, in ref. to the torque how many exact bolts will i be torqueing down just so i'm on the right page? thanks guys for helping me as i really appreciate the help.....money is tight and the dealership wanted $200.00 to install the starter..........

Re: changing starter on 1998 deville--have you done it?

ok, now i'm really lost after reading about the wires at the injectors.......i don't understand any of the TB side of the intake manifold or the fat gray plug under the TB.......(whats the tb????)

TB = Throttle Body

Disconnect the Fuel lines, the EGR tube, the fat gray connector in the pic, the PCV tubes, the front spark plug wires, the throttle position sensor wire, the 2 small coolant lines, the ground wire for the metal part of the fuel rail, and the MAF sensor wire. Then unbolt the manifold and it should come right off.

The intake manifold

The fat gray plug I mentioned

With the manifold off

It sounds harder than it is. I don't remember the torque specs off the top of my head so I'd have to go look.

89 in. lbs is correct.
89 in. lbs = 7.4 ft. lbs

Re: changing starter on 1998 deville--have you done it?

TB means throttle body or drivers side, and i torq the intake bolts with a 1/4 in ratchet and my hand ...snug .. i have always thought the 89in lbs where just a tad to tight and would crack the plastic... just my thought..
