WIll a base northstar work in a DTS with the HO northstar?

I found a pretty good deal on another 00 DTS, needs a motor, and also a good deal on a motor, but its from a base 05

"Sub" you out there; what say you. I'm thinking it should be fine (but I yield to the more experienced).

Re: 300hp N* to a Base N*

C&C, STS2003 has a couple of good points, and quite frankly I have no experience swapping a 2000 4.6 with a 2005. From reading CF threads concerning different years/models, the install you're contemplating could be done, but there will be some mechanical and electrical/electronic hoops to jump through. There were camshaft and engine controls changes over those 5 years. It doesn't appear to be a bolt-in, and may present some problems to be worked out. My .02 . (Best bet? Go to a closer year motor/transmission, if possible.....01 or 02.)

Re: 300hp N* to a Base N*

The VIN Y (275hp) will make More Power than the VIn 9 300hp oh I mean the 292hp will in that car. I would look for a 2002 to 2005 VIN Y engine

YES anything below 5100 rpm's, but you run your car over 5100 constantly correct. You never drop below 5100.

AJ
lets just say theres a reason why my STS gets at BEST 14 mpg

no that would make matters even worse the new pcm wouldnt be ready to accept the 3.71 gears and would throw a constant CEL lamp

Re: 300hp N* to a Base N*

Would it fock up the shift scheduling or is that done via RPM on these motors? WHY would it throw a CEL? Could a idiot with a tech 2 or similar change the RAR setting if there is one?
