Your exact question has been discussed in here and in Seville/Deville endlessly. The general consensus from all sorts of mechanics and engine builders is that, while some sealers might work for a little while, your best bet is to bite the bullet and do the engine head work properly.
What car, what engine, what year ???? Different answers.... |

AJ - my head gaskets looked pretty much just like that - I posted them on my ETC HG project thread - I never added anything but the recommended GM pellets. Do you think the pellets are a bad idea?

Richard Moore | Don't mean to answer for AJ, but they should not hurt anything. |

AJ...........Look at your last post, #9. Are you saying that GM has dropped the requirement to use the GM Supplement tablets in 2002 and prior year Northstar vehicles as part of a recommended coolant change ??
I called my tech friend at Fitzgerald Cadillac in Annapolis and he says there's no TSB on this change.
What's up ?? |

AJ, I strongly recommend you go back and read your posted note from last September as pertains to Northstars and seal tablets. Your blanket post ^^ which basically says "DON'T" is flat wrong.
Is the article you posted from GM Engineering ? Is the article you posted from GM Corporate ?
Show me the GM TSB that rescinds the requirement to use the GM approved coolant supplement in specific Northstar installations.
I want, in public forum, in this thread, an absolute statement from you, who represent General Motors, that the coolant system supplement tablets are not recommended in any Northstar installation. The members of CadillacForums deserve no less. |

The bulletin does say this, which I interpret as meaning DO use the tabs in N*s TIP: If seal tabs were installed in a vehicle at the factory, it’s OK that the proper amount of tabs be installed if the coolant must be drained and replaced. |

Careful Sub!
I once questioned the exalted AJ and got my head bit off by old timers and newbie's alike... He is NEVER wrong.
If he says not to use tabs that's good enough for me!
