Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

Remove this ad
It seems to me that more people are having issues with their Headgaskets recently. Am I just seeing things here? It's like whenever I read through the Seville/Eldorado section, there are usually 2-3 threads on the first page about headgasket issues that they're having, or burning coolant, or they're seeing white smoke, etc etc.

Re: Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

Well as the mileage on these cars gets higher and higher, there are going to be more headgasket problems.

The guy who bought my Brother's 2003 DTS 1.5 years ago just emailed me and told me he put a new motor because the HG failed.. but stated he & his wife is still very happy with the car... it has 142,000 miles on it.

Re: Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

I have only seen one head gasket failure on a 2000+ car. I have seen more head gaskets fail on the LS truck engines this year. The Dealership I work at has seen 3 or 4 truck/Escalade head gaskets fail in the last year. In the last 4 years I have seen 1 head gasket failure on 2000+ cars. On the other hand I have seen so many 99 and prior head gasket failures I could not even think about counting them.

Re: Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

So far there are no reports of failed head gaskets having healed themselves so there will always be more failure reports everyday.

Well you gotta figure the problamtic N*'s can only get older and the headbolts have only one direction to go, out of the block. So its pretty safe to say the headgasket thread will be a mainstay on the forums.

Re: Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

Like I said before the Root Cause is the casting and casting materials. The head gaskets are a secondary failure

That be a main bolt boss

Re: Are headgasket issues getting more common lately?

Another input......There are, or seem to be, more Cadillac owners, new and used, that come to forums such as this in order to learn about their cars. You must admit that the modern owner's manual is practically useless except to tell you how to properly hook up a child's seat, forget changing a taillight. And I'll bet that some of us have offhandedly informed other Cadillac owners of Sal's Funny Farm. Look at the number of members 2 years ago, and the rate at which new people sign on every day.

More members = more mechanical gremlins.
