    Re: More Power *grunt*!!!!

Just some random thoughts I had since I read this post.
    Bigger, more flow injectors.
    Cold Air Induction.
    Larger Throttle Body
    Hi. Perf. Ignition System.
Ported & Polished intake & Heads.
    Exhaust system, incl. Headers.

There's gotta be tons more. But, I think if all these mods were done some serious power could be unleashed. I would love to do these mods to my '98 STS. Anyone know a good estimate of HP gain from these mods???

I understand all those aspects of a performance upgrade to any vehical...but I was looking for something specific to the N* motor....such as a computer chip. I already have a full "true dual" exhaust system w/out cat into 2 magnaflow mufflers...which really unleashes more power...but that is it. I want a computer chip, or a reprograming code...something of that nature...

There is a guy here in my town who is a wonder with exhaust. He told me it would be tight, which it is, but he could do it. The cat is off, which makes a little more room...other than that, it is a full custom job...

Reprogramming the PCM or changing the chip alone will not make more power. Without additional air (due to other required mods....) additional fuel from a "chip" will not make more power. Wish it was that easy. If it was, the factory would have done it....LOL The factory PCM cal has the correct fuel and spark for max power already in it. It even has sufficient to compensate for the exhaust mods you made.

The exhaust will definitely help as you have no doubt noticed. Just keep in mind that you have a heavy car with an automatic trans with a 280 cubic inch engine.....tough to get more "grunt"...you need more cubic inches, more gear, NOS or a blower. Simple, inexpensive tricks will not work here. All the easy stuff has been done already in the factory setup to get the car as quck as it is already...!!!

The simplest and easiest performance increase is not a HP increase but a change to the trans. Spend the money for a higher stall speed torque converter...something around 3000-3500 stall speed. THAT will let the engine rev up more on launch to get the car moving and the engine up into the power band quicker. You'll get FAR more performance for your money from this mode than from anything else that you will do in the name of a "HP" increase. Give Yank Converters a call.....
