10% Ethanol comes to Northeast U.S.
Posted a reply concerning ethanol 10% in the "Switched to Mobil 1........" earlier today. Take a look at www.epa.gov/otaq/fuels.htm or www.epa.gov/otaq/actions.htm for the latest and greatest. Saw a reference in there to "gasohol", which was the early '70's methanol-enhanced gasoline that ate fuel lines and carb parts. No more. Then, a half-hearted try at ethanol-enhanced fuels. Finally settled on the now infamous MTBE to cut emissions. With the discovery that MTBE may cause cancer and all sorts of nasty effects (sure, if you drink it....) the knee-jerk reaction is to switch to ethanol 10% for emissions, not as a petroleum alternative like E85. So now, when the U.S. distilled "only" 600 million gallons of ethanol in 2005, not including Jack Daniel's we learn that we will need 4 billion gallons next year. A local news story says there's a 150 million gallon still going in somewhere in eastern NC next year. The stuff has to be shipped by tanker and blended at your local distributor, so invest heavily in stills and Peterbilt. Big Brother loves you................Jim (yes, 24 years in submarines.... )
I thought we had 10% ethanol in SE PA here for a couple months. They posted a sticker on the sunoco tanks. I dont know about Lukoil (i hate them commies and NEVER go there). I even ran out of gas once in another car and walked 2 miles to sunoco because they are russian dollars/mafia tied.
