You need to get some quick info on your Northstar DOHC engine and its parts. Wade through as much of these threads in this forum as you can, take out a multi-year subscription for the car in www.alldatadiy.com, suerf through articles of interest in Cadillac tech Tips, and study the entire Cadillac Technical Archive way up ^^^ in the top black bar. There are MANY forums and articles in this site - and its many forum pages - that will bring you up to speed.
Yes, the starter motor and solenoid are under the intake manifold - the manifold is a dry plastic composite affair - no coolant involved. A couple of special removal procedures involved as well as very low bolt torque settings. You NEED the Alldata (GM/Helm service manuals) subscription and the homework on how to effectively use the Alldata site. You'll also want to read up on the 2000 and later Northstar "plenum", the rubber/steel connector between the throttlebody and intake manifold spigot - they dry out and crack.
