    N* comp&performance mods

does anyone know where i can find a chip or programmer for my 97 etc i have exhaust, intake, plugs, wires, ceramic brakes and new rotors i want so more power what other mods are out there. what would happen if i removed the resonator i dont know what it does and also should i get a new cat. I also read something that you can override some functions on the ECM like spark timing and such does any one know how to do this.

I suggest you use the Search feature above. This has all been covered dozens of times. You can't get a chip for a 96 or newer. Put on a cat-back high flow exhaust system for a few extra HP, otherwise nitrous is your next best bet. An intake won't buy you much of anything. You can't override any PCM functions on a 96 or newer due to OBD-II rules. If it's mods you want, buy a Civic.

Mccowden why is it you always suggest buying a Civic? We hate them so much that when we had to rent one, we neutral dropped it all the time until it wouldnt shift past 2nd.

I don't understand how cadillac ODB-II can't be chipped or reprogrammed, but any 96-01 ford mustang cobra (4.6l Dohc, all-aluminum, just like the N*) and just about every new GM truck can.

Is it an issue with being able to read, understand, and alter the code, or does GM/Cadillac just make it impossible to modify?

Can someone shed some light here, as I'd like to supercharge or add twin turbos to my RWD N* in the future.

Also, I wonder if anyone will try to take the PCM, injectors, intake, Supercharger, intercooler, and fuel system from an STS-V or XLR-V, and adapt it to an earlier N* (with less boost). I'd be very intested...

    Re: N* comp&performance mods

The problem is cadillac is extremely secretive about their code. Hacking (finding the pertinent spark and fuel tables in the code) is a very difficult process, and nobody really wants to do it. Ford on the other hand, is very open, so lots of places make programmers for the mustang, etc..

Besides that, running boost would actually require modifying the code itself, and not just some tables. This becomes only 1000x more difficult than just reprogramming the tables for a few more ponies. It would require extensive knowledge of the current system, and most likely collaboration with a GM insider that worked on it.

So the short answer is to use an aftermarket ECM with boost.
