    Recall SS and FPR

When they replace the fuel rail to the SS one do they put on a new fuel pressure regulator or do they use the one from the old fuel rail?

    Thanks

No, I believe they replace the FPR as it is a different size. I do not believe they are interchangable.

It's not a different size... I changed out my own rail with the GM stainless rail "kit". It did not include an FPR, and the old one was a direct swap. I guess I should mention that this was for a '95. I can't guarantee a 96 or 97 doesn't have a different size FPR on the nylon rail vs the ss rail...

Hmm, that is strange. I would swear that it looked different on my '97 Deville before and after the fuel rail change. Curiosity got the best of me and I checked gmpartsdirect, no help. I then checked rockauto and for a '97 Deville they list two different FPR's. One is for the nylon rail and the other is for the stainless steel rail. Both AC Delco and different part numbers as well as price. Don't know what to say at this point.

I saw the same thing. Strangely, there are 2 Delco FPRs but only one from Standard Motor Products. The plot thickens... I can tell you that I bought one of the AC-Delcos for the SS rail for my car and it was identical to the one I removed. If they replaced the FPR when I had the recall done, that new FPR sure didn't last long. None of this proves anything, of course, so I'll just shut up now.

Maybe they're an updated/redesigned one? In other words, they saw how many were springing leaks, made a new one, and said "if you're in there anyways, recommend replacing this to the customer."

All I know is my rail didn't come with an FPR, so I reused the old one, and it works just fine

I specifically asked the tech who did the recall work on my ETC if they replaced the FPR, and he said no and offered to do so for a redonkulous price. I should've asked if they'd just let me have the rail and replace it myself, it would've taken 1/2 as long.

I was quoted $135 to replace the FPR, my cost over the counter was like $35...now thats ridiculous.

The parts books list two different regulators with one listed specifically for the SS rails.

Well I found a different FPR today. Not sure what year it's off of (it is 96-99), but unlike my 95, it's apparently regulated at a different pressure. My FPR reads "44psi" and lists a part number. The new one reads "51psi" and lists a different part number. I wonder if that has anything to do with it??

I can get both part #s if you guys are interested....

    Re: Recall SS and FPR

The fuel pressure regulator is not replaced as part of the 04014 campaign.
    Only the fuel rail.
There are two types of pressure regulators available for the ones that have been retrofitted. One with a steel rail, and one with the nylon rail. The difference? Get ready.... the only difference is the retainer that comes in the kit. The steel rail has a large u-shaped retainer that is thick and you have to use it in the new rail or you'll end up with a fuel leak. If the FPR is leaking I offer my customers the option of replacing it while I am doing the campaign. Meaning if I take off the vacuum hose and see fuel, I will replace it for no additional labor, afterall I already have it out for the recall.
I think the part lists for 60 bucks but I can't be sure of that right now.

I can't say other dealers are obligated to do that, but realistically they should look for it, and offer it for the price of the part while doing the recall.

Newer fuel systems use higher pressures, your 51 psi regulator is probably for a much newer model.

Where did you read that on the unit? I don't remember seeing anything like that on my FPR when I was looking at it, but of course it could be there and I could've just missed it.
