    1998 surging when accelerating

My 98 SLS surges during part and wide open throttle. Idle and light highway cruise are smooth as silk. Other than the surge, power seems ok and gas mileage is good.

    The plugs are new.

    Any ideas?

Check your fuel pressure under those conditions.

I'm with Ranger... It sounds like fuel pressure might be low under high demand conditions such as acceleration. Once you steady off on the pedal and fuel use is much lower, it's fine. It could point to a clogged fuel filter, a crud-covered screen on the fuel pump, a failing fuel pump, a bad fuel pressure regulator, a vacuum leak, and other things. But, as Ranger said, you should start by checking the fuel pressure while starting and while accelerating.
