    Water Pump Confusion

    Hey guys, i recently purchased a water pump fo my 97 ETC from autozone

    DURALAST_NEW WATER PUMP for a 1997 CADILLAC ELDORADO TOURING

    Unit Price: $63.99
    Core Value*: $0.00
    Part No.: AWP-9018
    Weight: 1.9 lbs.

    But i found a better deal at Napa

    Duro Pro New Water Pumps Water Pump - New
    DPW 1301840
    $ 48.49

    But these two pumps are not the same, even though they both are supposedly the right ones for the car. Can anyone tell me which one is the right pump or if they are both right. One has a hole in the center of the pump and the other one doesnt. Thanks

    Umm, well, you can get a new AC Delco pump at www.rockauto.com for $60 or the cheapest aftermarket remanufactured one is $30. It should look like this: http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Cardone/...ml?5513515.jpg

    Let us know which one is right, what you wind up doing, and how it turns out...

    Never buy hard parts from Autozone unless you want to replace it later.....and then again......again after that, get the picture. I work at a competitor and I hear nothing but problems from all of their products. Even had my own problems with their Alternators and starters.

    The key message is that you work for a competitor. I'll admit that I've had a couple of parts mix-ups with Autozone, but overall I've found their stuff to be reasonably priced and decent quality, and I've spent a lot of money at AutoZone and their competitors on parts for my cars and stuff I've worked on for plenty of friends, relatives, acquaintances, and neighbors. They frequently have multiple brands or grades of parts to choose from, and I think the old adage of "you get what you pay for" applies here. If they offer a cheaper and lower quality part, you should expect that it won't work as well as a higher-priced component. I wish they carried AC-Delco parts. Overall, considering the prices, I think AutoZone is decent. Not the best, not the worst. Any time somebody says something like "I hear nothing but problems from all of their products," it should probably be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism. If you don't want to risk the outcome of your car repair work, and want highly-reliable and well-engineered parts, you're going to have to spend the money, and you might not find what you're looking for at AutoZone. The key message: Shop around.

    Just my 2 cents worth...

    Incidentally, I grew up near Springfield, Illinois. Where do you live/work/go to school?
